Fisheries Ministry Opens Applications For International Scholarships

The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources has announced the opening of applications for scholarships to pursue higher education abroad in the field of fisheries.
The initiative is being carried out in partnership with the World Bank under the Transforming Fisheries Management in South West Indian Ocean Region and Maldives (Transform) project.
As part of the programme, four scholarships are being offered for Master’s degree programmes and three for Bachelor’s degree programmes. The fields of study available at Master’s level include Sustainable Aquaculture, Aquaculture Nutrition, Aquaculture Engineering, and Aquatic Health and Pathology. Bachelor’s degree opportunities are available in Microbiology, Agricultural Science, and Agriculture.
The scholarships can be undertaken in Asian countries, South West Indian Ocean Fisheries Commission (SWIOFC) member states, and countries belonging to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The award will cover course fees, living expenses, and other allowances.
Applications are to be submitted to the Project Management Unit of the Ministry before 12:00 noon on Thursday, 18 September.
The Ministry highlighted that these opportunities are aimed at building expertise within the fisheries sector, which remains a central pillar of the Maldivian economy. It further underlined the importance of enhancing the quality of education in the sector to support sustainable development.
