According to Immigration, the operation targeted individuals without valid visas and those involved in unauthorised business activities. As part of the enforcement effort, the task force raided two cafés in Malé, where the five illegal migrants were taken into custody.
The operation forms part of a broader initiative by Maldives Immigration to curb illegal migration and ensure compliance with national immigration laws.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Homeland Security and Migration is carrying out a separate operation named ‘Kurangi’, aimed at collecting biometric data of all migrants in the Maldives. The initiative seeks to address longstanding challenges related to undocumented and illegal migration.
The current administration has set a target to resolve the issue of illegal migration within the first three years of its term.
