In a post on X yesterday, the NDMA confirmed that monsoon rains, which fell between 8th and 31st August, resulted in damage to 89 homes.
“The damage to buildings and household items is estimated at MVR 1,084,169,” the statement read.
The affected islands include HA. Hoarafushi, HA. Uligan, HA. Ihavandhoo, HA. Kelaa, HA. Baarah, HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, B. Eydhafushi, AA. Ukulhas, S. Hithadhoo, and S. Feydhoo.
In addition to supporting those affected in the islands, NDMA stated that it is providing aid to people impacted by the monsoon rains in the capital, Malé.
Multiple areas of the Maldives, including Malé City, were hit by severe flooding following torrential rain and thunderstorms last month. This extreme weather was attributed to the active Southwest Monsoon, locally known as the Hulhangu Monsoon.
