Foreign Minister Departs for India for Second Core Group Meeting

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Dr Abdulla Khaleel, departed today on a two-day official visit to India to lead the second meeting of the High-Level Core Group (HLCG) between the Maldives and India.
The meeting is scheduled for 26 May 2025 at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi. The HLCG was formed to implement the “Maldives and India: Vision for Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership”, a framework agreed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their meeting in October 2024.

The discussions will cover a range of areas, including transport and connectivity, agriculture, fisheries, trade, the economy, health, people-to-people linkages, capacity building and training, and defence and security. The first meeting of the HLCG was held in Malé on 29 January 2025.
During the visit, Dr Khaleel is also expected to meet with the Indian Minister of External Affairs, Dr S. Jaishankar, to review bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international matters of mutual interest.
Dr Khaleel is joined by a delegation of senior officials from the President’s Office, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Ministry of Finance and Planning, Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, and the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology.
