Dr. Waheed’s political journey has seen him previously aligned with Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), where he held the position of advisor to former president Abdulla Yameen. However, this alliance came to an end on Thursday when he formally parted ways with the party.
He highlighted that the PPM, as the largest opposition political party, finds itself without a candidate listed on the ballot paper, signifying a lack of party representation.
Addressing the PPM directly, he stated, “So I would say to the PPM, if I am on the road, you are on the road too.”
In his official resignation letter from PPM, Dr. Waheed reflected on his decade-long association with the party, initially joined with the aspiration of fostering peace, harmony, and development within the nation.
He acknowledged some progress achieved during his tenure, yet also highlighted the remaining tasks to be undertaken in order to usher in greater economic development and democracy for the country.
