Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih delivered a sharp critique of the current government’s performance, accusing it of failing to introduce new initiatives and perpetuating lies.

Speaking at a rally held in Hinnavaru island yesterday in support of Jeehan Mahmood, a candidate contesting the upcoming parliamentary elections on the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ticket, Solih asserted that the government under Muizzu’s leadership has not brought anything new to the table.

Solih went on to highlight his administration’s accomplishments during challenging times, particularly in infrastructure development encompassing water, sewerage, and electricity projects. He alleged that the current government was merely appropriating nearing-completion projects as its own, misleading the public into believing they were new and original initiatives.

“Today’s government is not doing anything new. The government is being deceptive,  portraying projects near completion as if they were new projects,” Solih remarked, casting doubt on the sincerity of the incumbent administration’s claims.

Solih drew parallels between the present situation and his tenure, accusing the current government of perpetuating the same practices of deceit that Muizzu claimed were prevalent during his presidency. Expressing concern over the direction of the nation, he warned against complacency and urged the public to remain vigilant.

“They lied then and they are still lying. We cannot stand blind today. The country is going to fall into a deep pit,” he cautioned.

Looking ahead to the upcoming 20th Parliamentary elections scheduled for March 17, Solih expressed optimism for the MDP’s prospects, predicting a significant victory for the party and rallied support for Jeehan’s candidacy.
