Former RDC Managing Director Moosa Ali Manik, also known as Mookey, has refuted the current leadership’s claims that the previous administration harmed the company, calling the allegations unfounded.

Speaking at an opposition MDP press conference, Mookey criticised the current management’s assertions. He described them as “completely untrue.” Mookey specifically addressed comments made by the current Managing Director, Ali Zuhair, during a parliamentary committee session.

Zuhair had claimed that RDC currently owes MVR 837 million and that there were undocumented expenditures amounting to MVR 161 million. Zuhair also alleged that MVR 90 million had been transferred to the account of the former RDC Chief Financial Officer without proper documentation.

Mookey categorically dismissed these allegations. He stated that the claim of MVR 161 million being spent without documentation was a blatant falsehood. He questioned the inaction of the current management, asking why, if such significant misappropriations had occurred, the funds had not been recovered by now. Mookey challenged the current administration by asking why they have not taken action, given their supermajority in parliament and control over the state.

Mookey also highlighted that during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s tenure, the police had raided the RDC office and seized all documents. According to Mookey, these documents were returned to the current management in bags and remain unsorted. He asserted that the current RDC leadership had misled the public by releasing information based on assumptions without providing a proper explanation.

Mookey emphasised that during his tenure, RDC had to start from scratch with minimal resources. Despite these challenges, he claimed that significant efforts were made to strengthen the company and adhere to sound financial practices. He insisted that no expenses were incurred without completing the procurement process.

Mookey further questioned the varying figures provided by the current government regarding RDC’s debt. He suggested that these claims were politically motivated. Mookey also noted that no audit of RDC has been conducted since the change of government. He argued that this leaves the basis for the management’s claims unclear. Mookey revealed that the company has not submitted its statistics to the PCB in the last nine months.

He urged Parliament to allow him to address the allegations made by the current RDC leadership in the SOE Committee.

The allegations by the current RDC management include claims that MVR 161 million was released without documentation. It was also alleged that direct money transfers were made to companies via internet banking, and that company leaders deposited money into personal accounts.

The management further claimed that goods were purchased and rented at inflated prices and that there was unnecessary recruitment of employees. They asserted that RDC owes MVR 837 million due to financial mismanagement.
