Former Vice President Faisal Naseem has officially severed ties with the Jumhoree Party (JP).

Faisal Naseem embarked on his political journey in 2004, initially serving as a member of the Special Assembly. He later joined the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) upon its formation. In 2008, Faisal transitioned to the Jumhoree Party after departing from the MDP, dedicating 16 years of service to the party. In 2014, he secured a parliamentary seat representing the Kaashidhoo constituency.

During the 2018 presidential election, a decision by the multi-party coalition enabled the Jumhoree Party to nominate a running mate for the opposition’s presidential candidate, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Faisal Naseem emerged as the running mate and successfully contributed to the victory of the opposition, subsequently becoming the 9th Vice President of the Maldives.

Notably, Faisal became the first Vice President to complete a full five-year term since the implementation of the Green Constitution.

Following the last presidential election, he aligned himself with the Maldivian Democratic Party, supporting its candidate and former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, despite the JP leader Gasim Ibrahim contesting the election.
