Foundation Stone Laid for New Sports Complex in Nolhivaram

The foundation stone has been laid for a new sports complex in Nolhivaram, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, in a project overseen by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) on behalf of the government.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Abdulla Rafiu, MACL Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, and the Vice-President of Nolhivaram Council, Mohamed Hussain.

Nolhivaram Council President, Yoosuf Moosa, highlighted the importance of the project, noting that the island has a large youth population and a strong sporting tradition. He said the centre would create new opportunities for development in the field of sports.

Nolhivaram, home to nearly 3,000 residents, is widely regarded as a sports island. It has produced several athletes who have represented the Maldives at the national level, including football goalkeeper Iyan Abdul Aleem and former national volleyball team setter Hussain Hameed.
