Fourteen Island Council Staff Depart for Waste Management Training in India

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has announced that fourteen staff members from various island councils have travelled to India to participate in a technical training programme on waste and resource management.
The participants represent 13 islands from Zones 2, 4, and 5.

The four-day programme, hosted at the ICWMR, TERI School of Advanced Studies in New Delhi, aims to enhance the participants’ waste management expertise. This initiative is expected to contribute to more sustainable environmental practices across the islands.
Before their departure, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Environment, Ahmed Nizam, met with the participants to wish them well and encouraged them to make the most of the learning opportunity.
The Ministry highlighted that the training is a significant step towards strengthening the waste management system on the islands and ensuring sustainable environmental protection practices. The knowledge and experience gained will be used to further improve waste management systems in the participating islands.
The Ministry is also working on implementing mechanical composters and waste-to-energy systems in the islands.
