The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has reported that 14 islands across the Maldives sustained damage due to heavy rain and flooding as the country continues to experience severe weather conditions.
The affected islands include GDh. Madaveli, GDh. Hoadedhdhoo, GDh. Nadella, GDh. Rathafandhoo, GDh. Faresmaathoda, GA. Maamendhoo, L. Maavah, HDh. Nolhivamfaru, Kulhudhuffushi City, S. Maradhoo, R. Fainu, M. Dhiggaru, M. Madduvari, and Fuvahmulah City.
According to the NDMA, damage to a house in Kulhudhuffushi City led to the temporary relocation of its residents for one day. However, the situation on other islands did not require relocation to alternative shelters. The authority also reported receiving information about a damaged boat from HDh. Neykurendhoo.
The NDMA stated that assessments are currently underway in collaboration with island and atoll councils to determine the extent of the damage in each affected area.
The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast continued adverse weather conditions across the country throughout the week, with improvement expected after Friday. Authorities have advised the public, particularly seafarers, to exercise caution and take necessary safety measures during this period.
