Zero Waste Maldives and UNFPA Maldives hosted ‘Furaavaru Fest’ at Sultan Park yesterday, marking the first celebration of Menstrual Hygiene Day in the Maldives.
The event, aimed at children aged 10 to 15, sought to raise awareness about sustainable menstrual practices and provide accurate information on the subject.
The festival was complementary to the pilot project titled ‘Cupvert Project’, which was later rebranded to ‘Enmennah Engey Bodu Sirru’. This collaboration project between the two NGOs raised awareness of period issues and introduced sustainable solutions to meet the needs of women and girls.
Hamsha Hussain, Co-founder of Zero Waste Maldives, said in her speech to inaugurate the festival that one of the aims of this campaign was to break the taboo of menstruation in our society.
