The second phase of tarmac laying on the inner roads of Fuvahmulah commenced yesterday with an official inauguration by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The project, part of ongoing development efforts in the region, was initiated during Muizzu’s visit to four southern atolls.
This phase aims to cover smaller roads across Fuvahmulah, spanning a total area of 12.7 kilometres and including 50 roads. The contract for this phase was awarded to MTCC in July 2023, with a budget of MVR 255.2 million allocated for completion within a two-year timeframe.
The project’s first phase, which focused on tarmacking the city’s main and wider roads, has already been completed. Work on this initial phase began in the latter part of 2020, resulting in the tarmacking of 31 roads, covering an approximate distance of over 95,000 meters. The first phase incurred costs amounting to MVR 331 million.
The commencement of the second phase underscores ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and accessibility within Fuvahmulah, aligning with broader developmental objectives in the region.
