According to the Commissioner of Police, the protesters – which included deputy ministers and state ministers – were conducting the protest in the green zone that morning when gang members later arrived there. However, government officials left the protest as soon as the gangs arrived.

Some members questioned whether the government officials had anything to do with the gang members. Police said they could not verify whether there was such a connection, but special operations police began to move as soon as they arrived.

Defense Minister Gassan Maumoon said chicken eggs were thrown into the parliament grounds during the protest. The eggs were thrown from the east side of Parliament, facing the parking lot.

The army is responsible for ensuring the security of the parliament house and grounds.

Police are investigating the incident. Police did not name any government officials directly involved.
