Jumhooree Party (JP) leader and presidential candidate, Gasim Ibrahim, has vowed to construct a bridge connecting Naifaru, Madivaru Airport, Felivaru, and Gaa’erifaru to Hinnavaru in a bid to stimulate economic development in the region.

Gasim unveiled this during his campaign tour in Lhaviyani atoll for the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for September 9.

Addressing the crowd in Madivaru, Gasim expressed his vision for enhancing connectivity in the area.

“If I had been able to go to Hinnavaru, I would have thought of connecting Madivaru, Felivaru, and Gaa’erifaru between Hinnavaru and Naifaru. There’s a small stretch of ocean, approximately 300 meters of lagoon, that separates them. The longest distance is 500 meters. Under my leadership, I will unite these islands with a bridge,” he asserted.

He emphasised that the endeavor would not require extensive resources and, once completed, could transform the area into a thriving urban center. Gasim also pointed out that Lh. Atoll’s unique geography, characterised by expansive lagoons, allows for potential land reclamation if necessary.

It’s worth noting that the idea of connecting Naifaru with Hinnavaru via a bridge was initially pledged by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in 2018. However, as of now, no significant progress has been made towards realising this vision.
