The Ministry of Gender, Family, and Social Services has teamed up with Maldives Polytechnic to introduce a Certificate 3 course in elderly care, for the employees at Home for People with Special Needs.

This initiative was carried out with the intention to offer them specialised training to enhance their skills in caring for the elderly.

As of January this year, there are 205 patients living in Home for People with Special Needs; 118 females and 87 men. While 33 care workers are women, 66 care workers are men.

The course, conducted in partnership with Maldives Polytechnic, saw 24 employees working at the state centre participate. The key aim of the programme is to equip attendees with the necessary training and knowledge vital for ensuring top-notch care to the senior population.

It is anticipated that participants will not only acquire essential skills but also develop a deeper understanding of the importance of compassionate care for the elderly.
