Giraavaru Falhu Land Plot Draw Underway

The draw to allocate land plots to recipients from Giraavaru Falhu began this morning and is continuing at the Social Centre in Malé.
In a post shared on X, the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure said ministry officials are conducting the draw in the presence of attendees. The ministry added that only one representative per plot is allowed to enter the draw hall.

The ministry said it will notify recipients of their allocated plots via SMS immediately after each draw, while the Hiyaavahi portal will also be updated as soon as the results are confirmed.

Reclamation works at Giraavaru Falhu, where land plots were allocated to Malé residents under the previous administration’s Binveriya scheme, have recently resumed following a prolonged halt. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu shared images and footage of the renewed works on his official X account yesterday.
The previous administration initially allocated 2,000 land plots from Giraavaru Falhu. However, the current administration later determined that the reclaimed area would be insufficient to accommodate this number while also providing space for essential infrastructure and services. As a result, recipients were offered the option to switch their allocation to Gulhifalhu.
A total of 2,210 Giraavaru Falhu recipients applied to transfer their allocation to Gulhifalhu, and a draw was held in June to determine eligibility for plots at the alternative location.
Previously, on 25 November, President Muizzu said reclamation works at both Giraavaru Falhu and Hulhumalé Phase III were expected to be completed within three months, noting that the same dredgers used at Hulhumalé Phase III would also be deployed at Giraavaru Falhu.
