The government has advised the public to avoid diving in areas being dredged for the development of Rasmale’ in the K. Fushidhiggaru lagoon.

According to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), dredging work is being carried out around the clock using a dredger that will operate continuously at sites C and E of the project. The corporation has published a chart showing the designated dredging zones and the movement of the dredger.

HDC stated that it is unsafe to anchor or dive in the marked areas and urged people to exercise caution when travelling nearby. For further details, the corporation has asked the public to contact its hotline 1516 or email hello@hdc.mv and projects@hdc.mv.

The reclamation of Rasmale’ began on 18 December 2023 with an initial eight-month completion target. The first agreement for the project was signed with Sri Lanka’s Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMCC). However, the government later terminated the contract, opting to continue the work without allocating land to the contractor. Since then, the project has faced several interruptions.
