The government has awarded a contract for the development of 100 housing units in L. Gan, with construction expected to take place alongside ongoing and upcoming projects for a total of 300 housing units on the island this year.
The agreement for the 100 housing units was signed between the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure and the state-owned Housing Development Corporation (HDC) during a ceremony held in Gan on Monday night. The event was part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s tour of residential islands in Laamu Atoll.
The contract was signed by Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muthalib and HDC Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Asbaah Ali Naseer. The project involves the construction of three-bedroom housing units, to be completed within 410 days.
According to the government, physical works for the development of 300 housing units in Gan will take place simultaneously this year. This includes the 100 units under the new agreement, another 100 units already under development, and an additional 100 units scheduled to commence construction later in the year.
