Discussions have been held on handing over the operation of Agro National Corporation (AgroNat)’s vessels to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The AgriBoat vessels, developed by AgroNat, are designed to support farmers by transporting agricultural produce efficiently across the Maldives. Built to withstand local weather conditions and rough seas, the vessels are equipped with grain storage, solar-powered cold and dry storage facilities, and crew rest areas. The boats are also intended to operate in an environmentally sustainable manner.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, MTCC has expressed interest in incorporating the vessels into its fleet. The company has prepared draft schedules under its ferry service, which will be reviewed with the ministry to create logistics plans and share the information with farmers.
The initiative seeks to establish a reliable and sustainable system for moving agricultural products nationwide. By integrating the vessels into MTCC’s network, the project aims to ensure that fresh produce reaches markets across the country in a timely manner, supporting both farmers and consumers.
