The government has extended the deadline for applications for land and flats under the ‘Housing for All’ policy until 31st May 2026, marking the second extension since the application process began.
The Ministry of Housing announced on Monday that the extension applies to applications for flats in Malé City, as well as to special categories under the Family Housing Programme.
Eligible applicants include those who were not issued flat receipt documents under the Veshifahi or Hiyaa housing projects and have not yet received their flats, along with applicants applying under the disability category.
The ministry has also extended the deadline for categories outlined in the Rules for Allocating Land for Residential Purposes and the Binnveriyaa Special Scheme. This includes individuals who previously submitted joint applications under Binnveriyaa Category One and are now permitted to submit separate applications.
In addition, individuals who were earlier deemed ineligible for land allocation due to holding a flat under the Binnveriyaa scheme have now been granted additional time to apply.
The revised deadline keeps the application window open until the end of May, covering all land allocation categories under the Housing Programme.
The application deadlines were first extended in late February ahead of the elections held on 4 April. Since then, the government has introduced several amendments to eligibility criteria, drawing criticism over changes being made close to the deadline.
Applications for the first housing scheme under the Housing for All policy opened on 18 January last year. The government has announced plans to allocate a total of 7,900 flats and 15,000 land plots under the programme, with 4,000 flats designated for Malé City residents, 1,500 for non-residents, and 2,400 allocated to special categories.
