Government Strongly Condemns Israeli Attacks on Rafah City
In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday, the Government of Maldives has vehemently condemned the Israeli Government’s threats of a full-scale invasion of Rafah City in the Southern Gaza Strip.
Decrying the forced displacement and brutal attacks targeting innocent Palestinians, the Maldivian government labeled these actions as clear violations of international laws and a grave breach of humanitarian principles. Such actions are tantamount to war crimes and demands urgent attention from the international community, the statement asserts.
The Maldivian government also reiterated their call for decisive action against Israel from the international community, pressing Israeli authorities to adhere to the order of provisional measures issued by the International Court of Justice. The order, which was issued on January 26, mandates Israel to take measures to prevent any acts of genocide, establish an immediate ceasefire, and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestine.
The statement concludes with the Maldives government emphasizing their unwavering solidarity with the people of Palestine, reaffirming the Maldivian peoples’ commitment and support for Palestine’s legitimate right to statehood, and advocating for the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian State based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its rightful capital.
An attack on Rafah City occurred on February 8, killing at least 13 persons. There are more than a million Palestinians seeking sanctuary in Rafah after Israel promised that the city would be safe, however, Israel has since announced that military operations will expand further into the Gaza Strip.
