The government’s proposed budget has revealed an allocation of MVR 3.8 billion for land reclamation and construction under capital expenditure in the proposed 2026 budget.

Within the land reclamation and construction allocation, the largest expenditure is designated for new builds for public use at MVR 2.2 billion. Housing construction is set to receive MVR 1.3 billion, while MVR 277 million has been allocated for land reclamation and procurement.

This year’s budget does not provide a detailed breakdown of Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) projects under capital expenditure, instead presenting a total figure.

Beyond land reclamation and construction, MVR 4.2 billion is allocated for infrastructure projects, with the largest share of MVR 1.3 billion dedicated to road development and bridge construction.

The proposed budget also includes a contingency allocation of MVR 400 million under capital expenditure, diverging from previous practice where such funds were listed separately. Additionally, MVR 780 million has been set aside to procure resources required for office operations.
