Following deliberations, a consensus was reportedly reached with two influential bodies, namely the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) and the Tourism Employees Association of Maldives (TEAM).
Tourism Employees Association of Maldives is actively working towards altering the policy that prohibits resort employees from keeping their facial hair.

This will ensure that those resort workers who choose to have a beard or wear hijab are not subjected to discrimination based on these choices.
Mauroof further reported that the Economic Ministry will take the initiative to send a formal letter to MATI as well, to facilitate the process.
Mati states that they will require board approval first.
TEAM has been actively working towards altering the policy that prohibits resort employees from keeping their facial hair, specifically.
During this year’s February, TEAM had submitted a petition to the Economic Ministry to end the practice of forcing resort employees to shave and smoothen their beards everyday. The petition was signed by 1,500 male resort employees. Since then, TEAM has made significant progress on this campaign, with multiple resorts signing to work with them on this cause.
