Gov’t Announces Continuing of Over 30 Stalled Projects

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib, has confirmed the restarting of 32 stalled projects in response to the claims made by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih regarding project halting by the government.

Minister Muththalib addressed the issue in a statement posted on X, highlighting that numerous projects initiated during the previous administration faced delays upon the transition to the new government. Notably, 64 projects contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and Road Development Corporation (RDC) were among those affected.

Providing further details, the Minister disclosed that 32 of the stalled projects have now been successfully resumed. He also pointed out that an additional 83 projects contracted to the aforementioned state-owned companies are pending commencement, emphasizing the commitment of the new administration to address these delays.

In addition to the projects managed by MTCC and RDC, Minister Muththalib noted instances of neglect from Fenaka Corporation Limited, the Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), and several private entities in initiating projects. The Minister affirmed the government’s dedication to promptly resuming all stalled projects across various sectors.

The announcement comes amidst a backdrop of public discussions on the state of infrastructure development and the government’s approach to project continuity. The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure aims to ensure the timely completion of all projects to meet the needs of the community.
