Gov’t Announces Upcoming Rollout of ‘e-Faas 2.0’
The government plans to launch an updated version of its online services portal, e-Faas, later this year.
The new platform, e-Faas 2.0, is expected to be rolled out mid-year as part of the government’s digital transformation initiative, “Maldives 2.0”. The upgrade is being prioritised by the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT), which falls under the Home Ministry.
The new version is being developed in response to public feedback that the existing platform is not user-friendly. Key improvements will include eliminating the need for repeated logins, simplifying applications for government services, and allowing parents to manage accounts for children under the age of 10. Currently, children under 10 are not registered as e-Faas users, but the update will enable parents to access services on their behalf.
Officials acknowledged that access issues have persisted for years, with the platform not receiving an update since 2012. The Home Ministry said that approximately 272,000 people currently use e-Faas.
