The agreement was formalised during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works on Monday. Mohamed Saraah, Financial Executive of the Ministry, signed the agreement on behalf of the Ministry, while Ali Zuhair, Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), represented the corporation.
Under the contract, HDC will develop parks in islands across multiple atolls, including Molhadhoo and Filladhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll; Hulhudhuffaaru, Maakurathu, Kinolhas, Innamaadhoo, Inguraidhoo, and Fainu in Raa Atoll; Hanimaadhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll; Fulidhoo and Keyodhoo in Vaavu Atoll; Meedhoo in Dhaalu Atoll; Veymandoo, Thimarafushi, and Guraidhoo in Thaa Atoll; Maabaidhoo, Dhanbidhoo, and Mundoo in Laamu Atoll; Villingili and Kanduhulhudhoo in Gaafu Alifu Atoll; Gadhdhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll; Hulhudhoo, Hithadhoo 1, Hithadhoo 2, Maradhoo Feydhoo, and Feydhoo in Seenu Atoll; Lhohi in Noonu Atoll; Nolhivaram in Haa Dhaalu Atoll; Kanditheemu and Milandhoo in Shaviyani Atoll; and Fehendhoo and Kudarikilu in Baa Atoll.
The Ministry highlighted that the government is committed to establishing a children’s park on every inhabited island to support the healthy growth and recreation of children. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has instructed that all parks be completed by 2026.
The children’s park development initiative currently covers 57 islands, with work already underway in 52. The first phase includes 12 islands, with six parks developed by Fenaka Corporation Limited, four by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), and two by the Road Development Corporation Limited (RDC).
Under the latest agreement, HDC will oversee the development of parks in 32 islands, while seven islands only require park sets. There are five islands where work has yet to commence, with the State Trading Organisation (STO) contracted to supply park sets for a total of 129 islands.
The Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works reported that 33 percent of mobilisation for the third and seventh batches has been completed, while 17 percent of excavation and concrete works are also finished.
