Gov’t Commences Redevelopment of Galolhu City Park

MV+ News Desk | December 9, 2024

Male’ City Council has launched efforts to redevelop Galolhu City Park, located in the Galolhu district of Male’ City, after the park remained neglected for 15 years.

The park was initially closed for redevelopment 15 years ago, with tin sheets installed around the premises. However, no significant work was carried out during this period, leaving the site in disrepair. According to the City Council, the abandoned park became a hotspot for illicit activities, prompting ongoing complaints from nearby residents about safety and other concerns.

The redevelopment officially began on December 6, with initial efforts including the removal of tin sheets and preliminary cleaning and repairs carried out on December 8.

The Council stated that the revamped park will cater to public needs, offering a variety of facilities as space permits. Planned features include a three-on-three basketball court, an outdoor badminton court, a running track, a children’s play area, an outdoor gym, an events area, and a dedicated space for senior citizens to relax and socialise.

Mayor Adam Azim emphasised that the park’s redevelopment aligns with broader initiatives under his administration to make Male’ City a safer and more liveable space, fostering community support and care among residents.

A concept photo released by the City Council offers a glimpse into the park’s envisioned transformation, highlighting its potential as a vibrant community hub.
