The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company has completed the renovation and upgrade of the tsunami monument area in Malé, as part of ongoing efforts to improve public spaces in the capital.
Work on the project began in February, with significant structural repairs undertaken to address deterioration caused by erosion. A total of 75 metres of sheet piling has been renewed, while repairs to the quay have also been completed to strengthen the site. A protective fence has been installed around the area, recognising that the park is frequently visited by children.
The project also included aesthetic and functional enhancements. The tsunami monument has been relocated within the site, additional seating has been installed along the walkways, and new greenery has been introduced to create a more welcoming environment for visitors.
The redevelopment forms part of a broader government initiative to enhance community spaces across Malé. Several key public areas remain under renovation, including Sultan Park and Republic Square, while Rasfannu Beach is also undergoing redevelopment.
