Gov’t Condemns Attack on Iranian Consulate
The government of Maldives strongly condemned the recent attack on the Iranian Consulate in Damascus, the capital of Syria, in their statement released via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Reuters, a suspected Israeli airstrike on Monday resulted in the destruction of the Iranian consulate building, claiming the lives of seven military advisers from Iran’s Quds Force, including three senior commanders.
The targeting of diplomatic facilities is a violation of international law and undermines the rules of diplomatic immunity and the peaceful resolution of conflicts, they wrote in their statement.
“Upholding the inviolability of diplomatic premises according to international conventions is of utmost importance.”
The statement also read that the government and the people of Maldives express sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families and to all those affected by this incident.
