Gov’t Confirms Issuance of 624 Land Plots in Hulhumale’ Under Binveriya Scheme
Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development has revealed that a total of 624 land plots have been issued from Hulhumale’ under the former administration’s ‘Binveriya’ housing scheme, with 18 plots handed over yesterday.
In a post on social media platform X, the Ministry detailed that the former administration had awarded 1,408 land plots from Hulhumale’, with 465 plots handed over to recipients by the end of last year. An additional 159 land plots have been distributed so far this year, bringing the total to 624.
The previous government’s Binveriya Scheme aimed to issue 9,003 plots to 18,955 eligible recipients, with plots designated from Hulhumale’, Gulhifalhu, and Giraavarufalhu.
Delays in the distribution of land plots and flats under the Binveriya and Gedhoruveriya housing schemes have led to public dissatisfaction, culminating in a protest by Male’ residents last Thursday night.
The final list of flat recipients has faced significant criticism regarding the allocation of points. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigated the list and found that 59.6 percent of the recipients were ineligible.
There are concerns among some recipients that the current administration may revoke the list. A petition has been submitted to parliament opposing such a move. The parliamentary committee reviewing the petition plans to summon Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar and other officials for questioning.
