The government has issued instructions for the removal of campaign posters erected in Hulhumale’, following the parliamentary elections.
The move comes after numerous candidates availed themselves of the opportunity provided by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to display campaign banners and canvases in the area.
HDC had initially permitted candidates to utilise the space for campaign materials, citing the objective of ensuring equal opportunities for all contenders. However, despite the passage of more than a week since the elections concluded, many banners and canvases still adorn the area.
In response to the lingering presence of campaign materials, HDC released a statement yesterday expressing concerns over the inconvenience posed to the public. The corporation highlighted the need to maintain the usability of public spaces and urged candidates to remove their campaign materials within a one-week timeframe.
The directive underscores the government’s commitment to preserving the integrity of public spaces and ensuring minimal disruption to residents. Candidates are expected to comply with the instructions to facilitate the restoration of normalcy in Hulhumale’.
