The government has extended the deadline for relocating private huts in Hulhumale’ Phase 2 “Ruhgandu-3” beach area to 15 June 2024.

Originally, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) had instructed the public to relocate these huts by 30 May 2024, following multiple complaints from concerned citizens regarding the operations in the area.

Last Saturday, HDC directed hut owners to move their structures to a vacant plot adjacent to the beach. The corporation warned that it would clear the area if the businesses failed to relocate within the given timeframe and would not be held liable for any damages incurred during the relocation process.

Several private parties have set up huts in the beach area for commercial purposes. However, this area falls within HDC’s planned development zones and currently lacks the necessary resources and facilities for public use.

The extension of the relocation period aims to facilitate a smoother transition for the businesses involved, ensuring that the development of Hulhumale’ Phase 2 can proceed as planned.
