Minister Shiham described persons with disabilities as a group requiring enhanced social protection, emphasising that safeguarding their rights is essential for fostering a compassionate society and resilient family structures. She stated that these efforts remain a central objective of the current administration.
Under the leadership of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the initiative to provide employment opportunities has been identified as a key policy measure aimed at promoting inclusivity and advancing social progress.
The minister noted that collaboration has been a primary driver of success over the past two years and outlined future priorities, including early detection and treatment programmes for children, income‑generating opportunities for capable school‑leavers, and training in essential life skills. She stressed that inter‑agency cooperation will be crucial to ensure effective implementation.
The 2025 observance carries the theme “Fostering Disability‑Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress”, which emphasises the importance of increasing the participation of persons with disabilities in wider society.
