Gov’t Fiscal Reports Not Released for Over a Month
The Finance Ministry has not published its Weekly Fiscal Development Report for the past month, marking a significant delay compared to previous instances.
The most recent report was released in June. While delays in the report have occurred before, this is the longest gap since January. Previously, delays were typically around two weeks, but this delay extends to a full month.
The state has not issued fiscal figures for several months. According to the latest available data, as of June 20, revenue for the year has increased by approximately one billion rupees compared to the same period last year.
Specifically, revenue reached MVR 15.4 billion by June 20, 2023, and MVR 16.4 billion for the same period this year. The figures also indicate that recurrent expenditures for this period are lower than those of the previous year.
In addition to the fiscal report delays, the Ministry of Tourism has also yet to release its monthly tourism statistics. Typically, these figures are made available in the first week of the following month; however, data for June remains unpublished.
Moreover, the ministry’s daily tourist figures have not been published for a week, with delays affecting reports for the 15th and 16th of the current month.
