The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has handed over a total of 12 ferry stops and six ferry terminals developed under the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) service to island councils across the northernmost atolls of the country.

According to MTCC, the handovers were carried out between 14 May and 8 July this year, with a total of 18 councils receiving the completed infrastructure.

The six ferry terminals were handed over to the councils of Hanimaadhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll; Hoarafushi, Ihavandhoo, and Dhidhdhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll; and Bilehfahi and Funadhoo in Shaviyani Atoll.

Meanwhile, the 12 ferry stops were handed over to the councils of Finey and Vaikaradhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll; Muraidhoo, Molhadhoo, Maarandhoo, Thuraakunu, Uligan, and Baarah in Haa Alifu Atoll; and Feydhoo, Komandoo, Kumundhoo, and Goidhoo in Shaviyani Atoll.

MTCC stated that the ferry terminals and stops were constructed to enhance convenience for RTL ferry service users, providing sheltered waiting areas for passengers.

The government’s RTL initiative offers affordable high-speed ferry services to connect islands within individual atolls and link adjacent atolls, as part of broader efforts to improve inter-island connectivity across the Maldives.
