Gov’t Housing Projects Set to Commence in Late July, Confirms Muizzu
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has unveiled plans for the initiation of housing projects by the conclusion of July this year.
In an interview with PSM News, Muizzu reiterated his commitment to ensuring universal access to housing, asserting that the fundamental aim is to secure accommodation for all citizens.
Addressing the status of ongoing housing initiatives, Muizzu asserted that completion is imminent, with imminent handovers of both land and flats. However, he acknowledged delays attributed to an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) pertaining to the flats, expressing a desire for expedited handovers barring any impediments.
Discussing the government’s forthcoming housing endeavours, Muizzu disclosed plans for project commencement within the current year, citing previous delays owing to budgetary constraints.
While stressing the customary inclusion of sufficient funds in the budget to facilitate ongoing project completion, Muizzu voiced apprehension over the absence of such provisions in the current budget cycle.
Characterising this as an enforced postponement until the subsequent year, Muizzu contended that such deviations from established budgetary practices are unprecedented. He also suggested that opposition critiques alleging project cessation are facile.
Assuring that budgeted housing projects are slated for launch no later than the conclusion of July this year, Muizzu delineated a funding framework encompassing agreements with China, Exim Bank financing, as well as soft loans and developer contributions.
