Gov’t Inaugurates National Council of Mosques

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs officially inaugurated the National Council of Mosques, a significant step towards fostering a culture that prioritises the maintenance and well-being of mosques across the Maldives.

The ceremony, presided over by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim, marked the establishment of this advisory council.
Minister Adam Naseer, addressing the attendees, emphasised the profound significance of mosques in Maldivian society. He commended the architectural beauty of the mosques in the country, stating that they reflect the perfection and appreciation the people have for these sacred places. Naseer further highlighted the symbolic importance of mosques, portraying them as towering structures that garner immense respect from the public.
As part of the government’s commitment to supporting mosque infrastructure, Minister Shaheem disclosed a budget allocation of USD 973,000 for the renovation and maintenance of mosques. He underscored the collaborative effort between the government and the council to enhance initiatives related to mosques.
The newly established National Council of Mosques is set to serve as an advisory body, providing religious guidance on mosque-related matters.
The Ministry outlined its plan for the council to pave the way for the formation of committees in all inhabited islands, ensuring continuous assessment of mosque conditions throughout the country.
