Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen announced a thorough audit of the Ministry’s operations, addressing concerns about the registration of 69,780 vehicles over the past five years, with a focus on unusual registration patterns during the previous administration.
Addressing the media at the Transport Ministry’s first press conference since the change in government, Minister Ameen expressed a commitment to enhancing the public perception of the ministry.
Highlighting discrepancies in vehicle registration practices, the minister disclosed that the previous government employed an outdated system and registered vehicles in an atypical manner over the last five years. Notably, he revealed that a staggering 42,000 vehicles were registered in the Male’ area alone during this period.
Expressing concerns about the potential impact on traffic in Male’ areas, the minister warned that the continuous increase in the number of vehicles could exacerbate existing traffic problems. He emphasised the importance of formulating rules and regulations to manage vehicle registration effectively, preventing such a substantial surge.
Minister Ameen also shed light on other challenges inherited from the previous administration. Upon assuming office, the current government faced requests for approximately 200 domain services that had been halted by the previous government.
Minister Ameen assured that the government is actively working to subject these domains to a verification process.
