The addition of the new plant increases MWSC’s total daily production capacity to 28,000 tonnes. The State-owned utility company stated that the installation supports its goal of ensuring a consistent and safe water supply to the population.
According to MWSC Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed, the new RO plant was primarily installed by the company’s own staff. He noted that this development forms part of a broader initiative to strengthen both water production and storage capabilities in Malé.
Matheen also highlighted that the RO plant was commissioned ahead of the completion of a major project designed to improve water security in the capital.
MWSC’s key project at present is the integration of the water supply networks of Malé and Hulhumalé via the Sinamalé Bridge. The interconnection system is currently in its testing phase, with the company aiming to bring it into full operation before the end of the year.
Once operational, the interconnected network is expected to increase the water supply capacity by an additional 20,000 tonnes per day. Through these efforts, MWSC is working towards doubling its production output and expanding storage capacity to meet the growing demand for water in Malé and neighbouring areas.
