President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced a new policy to provide former civil service employees, who left their positions for various reasons, the opportunity to return to employment.

This initiative aims to re-integrate those who were dismissed or compelled to retire, addressing the concerns of experienced professionals about the lack of opportunities in their fields.

The Civil Service Commission has issued a circular outlining the regulations for reinstating civil service staff. These regulations apply to civil servants previously involved in issuing licenses and registrations who retired for various reasons.

They also cover those who do not wish to enter permanent (full-time) employment. Additionally, the policy includes employees whose work can be completed remotely but left the service for various reasons. It also addresses individuals in administrative positions who left the service and those hesitant to enter permanent administrative roles.

The regulation specifies areas where employment is not possible, outlines employment conditions and methods, and addresses other related matters. Furthermore, the policy includes provisions for hiring temporary staff to cover positions during maternity leave, ensuring continuity until the permanent employee returns.

This change aims to address delays in recruiting for positions that are not difficult to fill and to resolve the challenges of finding temporary replacements for employees on long-term leave, according to the President’s Office.
