Gov’t Issues Land Registry to Over 8,000 Recipients Under Binveriya Scheme
The Ministry of Housing has confirmed the issuance of land registries to 8,250 recipients of the Binveriya Scheme under previous administrations.
According to a statement released by the Ministry today a total of 8,250 recipients have completed their agreements and received registries for their plots. Additionally, 118 recipients have received confirmation letters acknowledging the receipt of land.
However, the Ministry noted that 303 recipients have yet to be assigned plots, while 16 have opted to waive their application for various reasons. Furthermore, 12 recipients are awaiting signature pending due to the unfortunate demise of their co-applicants. An additional 120 applications are still undergoing due diligence before proceeding to the signature stage.
In response to these challenges, the ministry stated that it is actively working to sign contracts with the remaining 212 applicants and subsequently issue land registries. Efforts are also underway to establish contact with the remaining pending recipients to expedite the process.
This development follows an amendment to land regulations, granting the Ministry of Housing the authority to directly issue land registries under the Binveriya Scheme. Previously, this authority was exclusively held by local councils.
The Binveriya Scheme, aimed at addressing social housing needs, has seen a total of 18,955 applicants eligible for the first round. The government had earlier announced its commitment to issue 9,003 plots, encompassing areas in Greater Male’ including Hulhumale’, Gulhifalhu, and Giraavaru Falhu, in addition to Male’ City.
