President Dr Mohamed Muizzu shared his vision on X, outlining ‘Maldives 2.0’ as an initiative to establish a digital-first nation, accessible and beneficial for every citizen, island, and future generation. He emphasised that this vision would lay the foundation for how the Maldives builds, connects, governs, and promotes transparency, while restoring trust in public institutions.
The President outlined eight key pillars that will guide this transformation:
- Digital Identity and Trusted Transactions: A secure national ID system that safeguards rights and allows consent-based access to services and data.
- Open Data Sharing and Governance: Systems that are interconnected, enabling a smarter, faster, and more connected digital environment.
- Cybersecurity for National Resilience: Robust cyber defences to protect national systems and enhance public trust in digital services.
- Modern Legal Framework for Digital Trust and Governance: Laws designed to protect rights, foster innovation, and instil confidence in digital services.
- Secure and Sovereign Digital Infrastructure: National cloud services, data centres, and archives that ensure digital independence and safeguard information.
- Citizen-Centric E-Government Services: Streamlined public services designed to be fast, transparent, and centred around the needs of the citizens rather than bureaucracy.
- Sectoral Digital Transformation: Modernising sectors like healthcare, education, justice, and Parliament to provide smarter, more inclusive public services.
- ICT Ecosystem Development and Innovation: Empowering Maldivian talent, startups, and the digital industry to lead the nation’s future economy.
President Muizzu has consistently advocated for the digitalisation of the Maldives, speaking on the subject at various international platforms since taking office.
