As part of the initiative, government teams will carry out monthly home visits to bedridden elderly individuals. These visits will be conducted with the assistance of volunteers from the Maldives Guides Association and individuals registered with Issravvehinge Naadhee, the senior citizens centre. The visits aim to provide companionship, uplift the emotional wellbeing of the elderly, and help identify the social support required by them and their families.
Young people will also play a role in the programme, contributing to community engagement and intergenerational support.
Dr Aishath Shiham stated that the initiative is being implemented under the direction of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, and forms part of the government’s wider social support agenda. According to the minister, the programme is intended to actively identify the needs of bedridden senior citizens and ensure the timely provision of necessary assistance.
The Ministry of Social and Family Development is also continuing its outreach through the “Haalu Kihineh?” initiative, which aims to directly engage with members of the public. To date, the ministry has visited more than 12,000 households as part of its efforts to assess and respond to social conditions.
