Gov’t Launches Register for Retired and Temporary Service Personnel

The government has announced the launch of a new register for retired service personnel, as well as technical and administrative staff who are hesitant to accept permanent positions.
Registration for this initiative is now open. A regulation introduced in August permits the reinstatement of technical and administrative employees who have either left the service or declined permanent roles. The ministry explained that this register was created as part of a special policy aimed at encouraging the return of former servicemen and professionals. The deadline for registration is set for 8 September 2025, at 1400 hrs.
Endorsed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the initiative seeks to address challenges in recruiting skilled professionals while providing experienced individuals with employment opportunities across various sectors.
Recruitment from the register will be managed by individual agencies, and applicants will be hired under specific circumstances. These include situations where an employee is on maternity or long-term leave, when a position has been advertised twice without success, or for seasonal work or temporary employment until a permanent hire is made.
The regulation also opens doors for those who left service for various reasons and those reluctant to commit to full-time positions. In cases where duties can be performed remotely, flexible working arrangements will be offered.
Retired civil service administrative staff will also be eligible for re-employment, though front-office counter service roles and senior management positions are excluded from the scheme.
