The government has opened the registration process for the national registry of taxi drivers, as announced following its inauguration yesterday.
The establishment of a national registry for taxi drivers forms part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s ‘Hafuthaa 14’ roadmap, encompassing the initial 100-day commitments.
The Ministry of Transport confirmed yesterday that they have developed a national registry for taxi drivers and have subsequently commenced registrations for eligible drivers.
Taxi drivers are instructed to complete the application form through the Ministry’s SIMS portal for registration purposes.
According to government statements, individuals listed on the registry will be recognised as taxi drivers who rely on taxi services as their primary source of income.
Furthermore, the government has outlined intentions to introduce a digital payment system for taxi services, aiming to engage in discussions with financial institutions to mitigate associated transaction fees.
