Gov’t Officially Launches ‘Magey Saafu Raajje National Conference 2025’

Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim has officially launched the ‘Magey Saafu Raajje National Conference 2025’, scheduled to take place from 20–23 July 2025.

The Conference is a key component of the government’s ‘Magey Saafu Raajje Program’, which aims to address waste management issues across the country through a holistic and inclusive approach. The upcoming event will serve as a platform to enhance waste management practices in the Maldives by promoting awareness, facilitating knowledge sharing, and encouraging informed discussions.

At a ceremony held today, the official branding and website for the Conference were unveiled, marking the beginning of preparations for the national-level event. During the launch, Event Maldives one of the country’s leading event management firms was awarded the contract to organise the Conference.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Thoriq Ibrahim underscored the importance of collective action in tackling the challenges of waste management in the Maldives. He stressed the need to build on local experiences and past lessons to develop integrated and sustainable waste management systems, while also highlighting the critical role of capacity building and public awareness in ensuring long-term success.

The Magey Saafu Raajje National Conference 2025 is being organised under the Maldives Clean Environment Project, funded by the World Bank and implemented by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment. The event is expected to draw the participation of 500 individuals, including island, city and atoll councillors, technical experts, representatives from the tourism sector, government ministries and agencies, and other stakeholders engaged in waste management.
