Economic Minister, Fayyaz Ismail, revealed that the government is in the process of implementing a mechanism that will permit the leasing of housing units provided under government schemes.
Speaking at the inauguration of an MDP party center in Hulhumale’ Phase II, Fayyaz emphasised that the primary aim behind this decision is not driven by financial gains for individuals, but rather by the goal of offering accessible and affordable housing solutions to those who continue to require suitable accommodation.
“Anticipatively, our future government will engage in dialogue with the public to ensure decisions are made in a manner that is mutually advantageous,” Fayyaz expressed.
At present, the official leasing of Hiyaa flats located in Hulhumale Phase II remains disallowed by regulation. However, a prevalent practice of renting out these flats exists, largely without facing any significant consequences.
Although the government is contemplating the establishment of a framework that allows flats to be rented out, it is important to note that the sale of government-issued land plots is subject to a stipulated period of ownership before they can be legally sold.
