Gov’t Reinstates Requirement for Taxis to Register with Licensed Centres

MV+ News Desk | September 21, 2024

The government has announced an amendment to the Taxi Regulations, reintroducing the requirement that any vehicle issued a taxi licence must be registered with a licensed taxi centre.

Initially introduced in 2022, the original Taxi Regulations mandated that vehicles applying for taxi licences be registered with a licensed centre.

However, this requirement was removed in an amendment made on 18 September last year. Until then, applicants had been required to submit documentation proving the vehicle’s registration with a taxi centre when applying for a licence.

The latest amendment, made on 17 September this year, has reinstated the condition.

Under the revised regulations, vehicles seeking a taxi licence must meet roadworthiness standards, be covered by third-party insurance, and pay an annual fee in order to receive approval.
