The government has announced the reopening of the Henveiru Ferry Terminal area to passenger vessels, aiming to ease congestion caused by the ongoing widening of Bodu Thakurufaanu Magu.

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) confirmed that the harbour area adjacent to the terminal will now be used for the embarkation and disembarkation of passengers travelling on Atoll ferry speedboats. Operators have been instructed to enter the harbour area to board passengers 10 minutes before scheduled departures.

MTCC said the adjustment will provide relief to ferry and speedboat operators who have traditionally used the area, which had been closed for the road widening project, for services connecting Malé to other atolls. The company also noted that ferry operators and the public will be informed of any new traffic arrangements.

The reopening and operational changes are a direct response to challenges arising from the Bodu Thakurufaanu Magu modernisation project, a government initiative designed to improve traffic flow and create a safer, more comfortable urban environment for residents.

MTCC Project Manager Abdulla Faiz confirmed that new traffic flow plans and any closures will be communicated through multiple channels, including the Maldives Police Service and city council announcements.
